Prenatal Services

Although, it is common to have aches and pain in pregnancy, it doesn’t mean you can’t do something about it! Pelvic girdle pain can be in your back as it meets your pelvis, in front at your pubic bone, groin pain and/ or leg pain. As you body goes through all the changes of pregnancy your muscles and joints may need some TLC. A physical therapist can help with manual therapy such as joint mobilizations, teaching you mobility and strengthening exercises that will help decrease your pain and teach you ways to move when caring for young children and a newborn.

Areas of Treatment

  • Hip and Back Pain

As your body changes during pregnancy, the muscles of the low back and hip work hard to counter the weight of the growing baby and can sometimes cause pain. You may experience pain in your low back, tailbone of the outside of your hips.

  • Sciatica Pain

Sciatica pain can be described as sharp, shooting pain down the back of your leg. In pregnancy, this pain usually is caused by the expansion of the pelvis and the stabilizing muscles of the hips.

  • Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence is the unplanned leaking of urine. It can happen with cough, laugh, sneeze, lifting, exercise etc.

  • Pubic Bone Pain

The pubic bone is in the front of your pelvis.  It is made up of two bones and is brought together in the front by cartilage known as the pubic symphysis. During pregnancy your pelvis expands to accommodate the baby. The expansion of the pelvis and the reaction of the stabilizing muscles can cause pain at the pubic bone.

  • Ligament Pain

Round ligament pain can be experienced in pregnancy as the uterus grows and expands, it can be experienced as a  sharp pain or jabbing feeling often felt in the lower belly or groin area on one or both sides.
